Wingbits Enhances Network Security with Transition to Approved Devices: Ensuring Quality and Integrity

Introduction

After over six months of research and discussions with potential customers and industry experts, Wingbits has announced a significant transition from onboarding build-your-own devices to onboarding Wingbits Approved Devices only. This change aims to protect the community and customers by ensuring fairness, transparency, and high-quality data within the network.

Impact on Current Community Members

Wingbits recognizes the contributions of its community and ensures that this transition will not negatively impact existing members:

  • Grandfathering Existing Devices: All existing devices will continue to participate under the same terms as future Wingbits devices. This includes devices already live and those with a 30-day hexagon reservation, provided they go live within the reservation period.

  • Security Enhancements: All online stations at the time of the announcement will receive a free USB dongle containing cryptographic and GPS chips. This cost will be absorbed by the company as a gesture of appreciation. Build-your-own devices must enable this dongle within 90 days of receipt to continue earning rewards.

  • Build-your-own Device Limit: The network will allow up to 2,000 total build-your-own devices. These devices must purchase a dongle at a discounted price to continue participating after 2024. Once the network reaches 2,000 devices, onboarding will be locked until approved hardware is available, expected in early November.

  • Mining Wingbits on 3rd Party: Wingbits will collaborate with 3rd parties like Crankk or BitHarvest during this transition. Devices that support the dongle will be grandfathered in.

Reasons for the Transition

The transition to approved devices is driven by several key factors:

  • Avoid Spoofing and Cheating: Secure hardware will protect the project and community from spoofing and cheating, enhancing the network's value to data buyers.

  • Commercial Value: A secure hardware network will attract more customers, allowing Wingbits to dominate the market and generate significant revenue for the community.

  • Technical Support: A more uniform network simplifies support, making it easier for less technical individuals to join.

  • Data Quality and Reliability: High-end, homogeneous devices will improve network quality and reliability, increasing its commercial value.

Clarifying Details

Wingbits will notify everyone when the portal is open for dongle orders. Those who qualify for a free dongle will follow a simple order process to provide shipping details. Existing live stations automatically qualify for the free dongle and will be notified when the portal is ready. For hardware ordered before August 5th, 2024, in transit, proof of order details must be provided to qualify for a free dongle. The 90-day period to install the dongle starts upon receipt.

Final Thoughts

Wingbits' transition to approved devices marks a significant step towards enhancing network security, quality, and commercial value. By ensuring fairness and transparency, Wingbits aims to create a secure and reliable data network that benefits both the community and customers. This move sets the stage for a robust and valuable network poised for future growth and success.
