Combinder, Nevermined, and Olas Unveil AI-Driven Web3 Energy Nano-Grid on peaq

Introduction


Combinder has teamed up with Nevermined and Olas to develop a groundbreaking AI-driven Web3-powered energy nano-grid demo. This collaboration showcases the powerful synergy between these projects on the peaq platform and highlights the significant real-world impact they can achieve.


A Demo of the Future


This demo aims to illustrate how blockchain and AI technologies can empower households to contribute to green energy while earning rewards for making the grid more flexible. The AI-driven proof-of-concept demonstrates how an individual household can function as a source of green energy, helping to offload the grid—a crucial step for building flexible energy networks.


Building the Nano-Grid


Combinder, with Nevermined and Valory (a core contributor to Olas), is creating a local nano-grid within a single household. Equipped with solar panels, this household represents a 'prosumer'—a consumer that also produces energy during periods of sufficient sunlight. The International Energy Agency projects that the number of such households will grow from 33 million to 100 million by 2030.


AI-Driven Energy Management


In this setup, Combinder connects a solar panel and an air conditioning unit to its energy marketplace. Valory, on behalf of Olas, provides AI agents to monitor energy consumption and production. When the AI predicts overproduction, it activates the AC unit. Nevermined offers the payments system for the AI agents, ensuring optimal prices and earnings for device owners.


Optimizing Local Energy Supply


The prototype demonstrates how AI can optimize local energy supply, which is already cheaper than centralized grid power, while managing consumption sustainably. This sets the stage for further research and development aimed at creating a global network of AI-powered microgrids that operate in tandem to provide sustainable energy.

Kai Siefert, founder of Combinder, emphasizes the importance of peer-to-peer microgrids for sustainable energy and the role of DePIN in aligning stakeholder incentives. Don Gossen, CEO of Nevermined, highlights the mission to enable AI agents to transact and save on power bills. Ralph Pahlmeyer, Head of Business Development at Valory, points out the benefits of aligning local power consumption with the larger grid through AI agents.
